General Information and Nomination Procedures
TAGT is seeking nominations of educators, parents, and community advocates to receive recognition for service, contribution, and commitment to gifted education. Area Awards are given to Outstanding Teachers of the Gifted, Outstanding Parents of the Gifted, Outstanding Advocates of the Gifted, Rising Star Teachers of the Gifted, and Outstanding Administrators of the Gifted. Potential honorees can be self-nominated or nominated by others.
- These awards are presented annually in each of five geographic areas with a valid nominee.
- TAGT is soliciting nominations though April 30; the TAGT Membership and Parent Involvement Committee will determine the award recipients from each of the five geographic areas, using the selection criteria noted. Winners will be announced in August 2012.
- Those submitting nominations for these awards should be familiar with the selection procedure and criteria. Depending on the category, two or three letters of recommendation and possibly a résumé may need to be submitted. Specific examples of the nominee’s service, contribution, and commitment to gifted education should be cited in supporting documentation. Letters should be limited to approximately 500 words and be printed or written legibly. If printed, please use a font size of at least 12 points.
- Recipients of the Area Awards are eligible for consideration for TAGT State Awards in each of these five categories.
- All Area Award winners are recognized at the TAGT Annual Conference. While not required to
attend, they are encouraged to do so. Please note that TAGT does not pay for registration,
travel, hotel, or other related expenses for Area Award recipients.
TAGT State Awards
Outstanding Teacher, Parent, and Advocate of the Gifted
Members of the TAGT Membership and Parent Involvement Committee will review the nomination materials of all Area Award winners. From that pool, the TAGT State Award Winners are selected in all five categories.
All State Award winners are honored at the TAGT Annual Conference. They receive a plaque, a two-day complementary registration, and two nights of hotel accommodations. The TAGT Teacher of the Year receives a $1,000 award from the Association. The TAGT Parent of the Year, Advocate of the Year, and Rising Star Teacher of the Year each receive a lifetime membership to TAGT, valued at $500. The TAGT Administrator of the Year receives an award determined by the sponsor, the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science.
