Legislative Update

On Wednesday, HB 1525 was amended from the Senate floor by Chairman Taylor(6:23:30) to reinstate the G/T Allotment. The engrossed bill with final amendments and language has not been posted or made public at the time of publishing this update. The Senate version will be posted here.

Legislative Update

The Lt Governor’s office referred HB 1302 to Senate Education Committee early this week and we are hopeful the bill will receive a hearing. Senator Powell has picked HB 1302 up in the Senate, for which we are grateful!

Yesterday, the Lt. Governor’s office referred HB1302  to the Senate Education Committee! Our next, urgent step is to get this bill heard in and passed from the committee by Wednesday, May 19. Please reach out to Chairman Taylor’s office to urge him to schedule this bill for a committee hearing.

Legislative Update

This morning, House Bill 1302 officially passed out of the House! Representative Guillen amended his bill on the floor with language TAGT and Gifted Education Family Network submitted to his office. He also took two amendments: one dealing with CTE and the other addressing military readiness. All three amendments can be found here. Representatives Meza, Button, and Shaheen signed on to HB 1302 as Joint Authors.

TAGT Announces 2021–2022 Emerging Leaders Class

AUSTIN, TEXAS – May 10, 2021 – The Texas Association for the Gifted & Talented (TAGT) is thrilled to announce the newest members of its innovative leadership program, the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). The program is designed to provide district G/T coordinators, who have three years’ experience or less, with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively with school staff, parents, students, and the community to positively impact the development of appropriate educational services for G/T students in the district.

HB 1302 Scheduled for House Floor 5/11 - Advocacy Action Request

HB 1302 (filed by Representative Guillen) relating to indicators of achievement under the public school accountability system that relate to some educational practices and strategies used to serve advanced learners, including G/T students, has been scheduled for the House Floor tomorrow, May 11.
