Legislative Updates for February 9, 2023
TEA Commissioner Mike Morath presented the agency's appropriations request on Monday. In addition to his report and the requests for funding, there was a long discussion about the decline in enrollment and the funding formula. There is some talk about changing the way that the formula is calculated from average daily attendance to enrollment. This could be a massive change to how funds are distributed to our schools. News from the Texas House of Representatives
The big news out of the House this week is that the Speaker announced committee assignments. There are some new faces on the House Public Education Committee, including a new Chairman. Dr. Brad Buckley from Bell County will be leading the House Public Education Committee this year. Chairman Greg Bonnen was reappointed to serve as Chair of the Appropriations Committee (budget and finance). New appointments on the Appropriations Committee includes San Antonio Representative Steve Allison who also serves on the House Public Education Committee.
