This week, Speaker of the Texas House Dade Phelan announced six additional priorities for the House this legislative session.
- Build a more resilient Texas by expanding the state's framework for broadband development,
- Dedicate dollars toward improving water infrastructure,
- Cut burdensome red tape around property development projects in the state,
- Dedicate more dollars toward brain health research,
- Improve the outcomes of youth in the state's juvenile justice system, and
- Address the rising concern among Texas parents over certain content in public school libraries.
This week, in the House:
Wednesday was the first day this Chamber conducted business this session. This calendar was what you call a "Memorial and Congratulatory Resolutions Calendar". No substantive business was conducted. There is only one bill waiting to be set on a floor calendar and no calendar is set for the remainder of the week. It may be a week or so before the House hears bills on the floor.
The House Public Education Committee met and heard four bills this week. They seem to be on schedule when you compare them to hearings from the session. The next committee meeting will be on Tuesday. To view this week's hearing click here.
This week in the Senate:
The Senate has been passing resolutions for the last week and a half. On Wednesday, the chamber passed two bills pertaining to the judicial system and background checks for firearms. The Senate floor calendar is filling up and we will see bills start to pass out and sent to the House for consideration.
Senate Education met and heard several bills. They have started to get to work. To listen to this week's hearing click here.
