LEGISLATIVE UPDATES FOR MAY 26, 2023

With only 4 days remaining, we are in the final stretch of the 88th Legislative Session. The last couple of weeks of Session are usually a little stressful and things move very quickly- or slowly in the case of the House floor on deadline day.
With only 4 days remaining, we are in the final stretch of the 88th Legislative Session. The last couple of weeks of Session are usually a little stressful and things move very quickly- or slowly in the case of the House floor on deadline day.

Tuesday was the final day for Senate Bills to pass out of the House and many bills did not make it out in time by the deadline. SCR 9 (G/T Week) did not make it onto the House calendar. SB 2403 did make it to the calendar but there were 13 pages of bills to get through and they only got to page 6. Unfortunately, HB 2403 was on page 8 and failed to pass out of the House.

Neither SB 2403 nor SCR 9 made their way to the Governor's desk, but we did raise awareness with legislators and their staff and will work again next Session to get these measures passed.

On the bright side, HB 1 (Bonnen/Huffman) or the General Appropriations Act is in its final stages and funding for G/T is at the same levels as last session. If you would like to read the Conference Committee report it can be found here.

The Legislature will Sine Die on Monday.
