This week, TAGT volunteers and staff visited the Capitol, meeting with the offices of the Texas House Calendars Committee to ask for HCR 64, which creates G/T Awareness Week for 10 years, to be placed on the House calendar. Yesterday, the House Calendar included HCR 64 for Monday, April 14! This means we need support from the House to pass the HCR on Monday, which will then start the process all over again, this time on the Senate side. Call and email your Representatives today to ask them to support HCR 64 on Monday.

This week has been a pretty quiet week for public education, though the budget is on the floor today with 390+ amendments to discuss. The funding for the increase in the G/T allotment cap is included in the contingency section of the budget, should HB 977 pass. This bill, and its companion in the Senate, SB 1613, have been referred to the committee but are still awaiting a hearing. Encourage your legislators to sign on to the bill and contact education committees to set HB 977/SB1613.
