The 89th Legislature adjourned Sine Die (Latin for “without day") on Monday. In February, Governor Abbott announced seven priorities: School Choice, Teacher Pay, Expanding Career Training, Property Tax Relief, Water Infrastructure Investment, Bail Reform, and Cyber Command. The Legislature delivered on each of these items. The Governor signed SB 2 (Creighton), the Education Savings Account bill, last month. This week, he signed HB 2 (Buckley), the public school finance bill, the Cyber Command bill, and the Bail Reform Bill. He is expected to sign the other top priority bills in the next couple of weeks. He will have ceremonial signings across the state. The Governor has until June 23 or 21 days from Sine Die to veto bills. A total of 1,210 out of 9,014 bills were sent to his desk for review. So far, Abbott has signed 308 bills, 24 have become law without his signature, and two have been vetoed. He also has the authority to use his line-item veto powers in the $338 billion budget (SB 1 (Huffman))
