House Bill 3 Heads Out of Committee

to House Floor: Keep Contacting Your Reps

The House Public Education Committee will meet Tuesday, March 19, in Austin regarding the revised House Bill 3. There will not be an opportunity for additional public testimony and the revised bill may not be made available before the meeting. It is imperative that the House Public Education Committee and your representatives hear from you before Tuesday (even if you've already reached out). Let's show the legislature just how strong the Texas G/T community is!

Call to Action:

  1. Write your representative and the committee (again): We have updated the Sample Letter to provide several points in response to arguments we heard at the public hearing. In short, local control over G/T funding will leave G/T students underserved in many districts. Specific, designated funding must stay in place. There is ample local control in how students are served in the Texas State Plan for Education of the Gifted and Talented.
Customize/personalize this sample letter; form letters are not nearly as impactful. Remember to stay positive. Ultimately, we support HB3 with the exception of the repeal of the G/T allotment. Once you're done, share the TAGT Call to Action with your personal contacts.
  2. If your representative responds: Please take the time to thank them and address any points they send back. Make yourself familiar with the TAGT HB3 FAQs and email us if you are not sure how to respond.
  3. Be part of the collective voice for gifted education. Join TAGT and encourage other G/T supporters to join. One of the easiest ways to communicate your support of the gifted community in Texas is to join the united force of our members. Unique. United. TAGT.
