AUSTIN, TEXAS – February 26, 2020 - The Texas Association for the Gifted & Talented (TAGT) is proud to recognize Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound with the TAGT Friend of the Gifted Award for her efforts and work as a strong G/T advocate in the Texas Senate.

“During the 2019 Legislative Session, Senator Nelson continued to demonstrate her long-time support of gifted and talented students in Texas.  Gifted and talented students, parents, and educators appreciate Senator Nelson's bold attempt to maintain the gifted and talented allotment in House Bill 3 and her success in ensuring gifted and talented programs are highlighted and studied in the Senate Interim charges," Paulina van Eeden Hill, CAE, Executive Director of TAGT said.

In receiving this award, Senator Nelson said, "Gifted and talented students are all too often left to fend for themselves simply because they are deemed smart.  These students have their own special needs, and it is important that we provide them the educational opportunities they require.”

TAGT appreciates Senator Nelson's efforts to continue to ensure G/T students' needs are met and to highlight G/T programs across our great state.
