Great news! Senator Springer filed SCR 9 in the Senate, this is the companion to HCR 8 (Shaheen) designating the first full week in April as Gifted and Talented Students Week for a 10-year period ending in 2033.
Great news! Senator Springer filed SCR 9 in the Senate, this is the companion to HCR 8 (Shaheen) designating the first full week in April as Gifted and Talented Students Week for a 10-year period ending in 2033. Last week the House and Senate passed each chamber's rules. In the House, it was a day filled with jabs and procedural maneuvers. The biggest take away from the rules is that Speaker Phelan can appoint Democrats as Committee Chairs and there are new rules for those who break quorum.
This week was the inaugural for the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor. Governor Abbott promised to make schools safer, pledged to support law enforcement, tackle the fentanyl crisis and give money back to the taxpayers. The transcript of Governor Abbott's speech can be found here, Lt.Gov. Patrick also laid out his priorities including school choice, infrastructure and border security as well as cutting property taxes. The Texas Tribune has the transcript of the speech and it can be found here.
Both the House and Senate are adjourned until Tuesday, January 24.
