Big news from the Legislature relating to G/T this week. On Wednesday, the Senate Education Committee heard
SB 2403 (Springer). TAGT Executive Director, Paulina van Eeden Hill, was there to provide remarks on the bill. Mary Lynn Pruneda from
Texas 2036 also provided comments in favor of the bill. SB 2304 was left pending in the Committee. We are hopeful that the bill will be voted out at the next Senate Education meeting. If you would like to watch the Committee hearing and the bill layout, it begins at mark 1:30:00 and can be found
here.
SCR 9 (Springer) has been referred to the House Public Education Committee. Rep. Allison from San Antonio will sponsor the resolution. We are one step closer to having the first week of April designated G/T week for 10 years.
The House was busy this week. They had a heated debate about local control
(HB 2127 (Burrows) and they passed
HB 900 (Patterson) banning certain books from public school libraries.
The Senate passed its version of the state budget on Monday with no amendments. The bill is headed back to the House where the Speaker will appoint Conference Committee Members. The Senate also passed
SB 11 (Nichols) which would strengthen active shooter plans.
