Participants will reflect on their currency syllabus, classroom policies, and relationship-building strategies with the hopes of creating an action plan and goals for the upcoming school year.
This book study will benefit all types of secondary advanced programs, not only Advanced Placement. Andrew Sharos has does extensive work in equitably identifying advanced learning potential in his school district and currently has a secondary advanced learning program that mirrors his district population. We welcome all roles to join for this virtual book study.

Agenda and Learning Outcomes (All sessions will take place online in Zoom)
Part 1: January 19 4:00-5:00pm
Introduction and Chapter 1
This session will include an introduction to the book and author, a preview of the upcoming chapters and a chance to reflect on the current classroom practices of assigning homework, formal and informal assessment, mastery learning, assessment structure, review strategies and feedback structure. This session will help teachers evaluate their current practices and preview the instructional methods used in All 4s and 5s.
Part 2 February 23 4:00-5:30pm
Chapters 2-4
We will review the best instructional practices from the first session and preview the culture-building strategies that participants will learn in the next few chapters. Participants will receive disciplinary literacy-based handouts to use with students and discuss the concepts of creating high expectations for ALL students.
Part 3 March 23 4:00-5:30pm
Chapters 5-6
This session will focus on Andrew’s “elite 8 of culture-building strategies in class. Participants will have the opportunity to take a culture inventory and discuss the starts and stops in their own classroom culture.
Part 4 April 20 4:00-5:30
Chapter 7, 8 and Resource Guide
The best classroom teachers often have the support of great programs and leaders. This session will focus on leveraging our voices to get support for ourselves and our students in creating high expectations for all our students. Student outcomes are about students, not outcomes.-but this will only happen with great systems of support. Learn about the structure of support and how to implement and advocate in your own space.
Part 5: May 2023 (date TBD)
Coordinator Bonus Session
This session will be for district coordinators and directors who are working to shape and guide secondary services for gifted learners. Andrew will provide specific coaching in helping you build advanced secondary programs to meet the needs of your learners.
